The Social Pastoral vicariates Workers have started since March 2006, a process of integration and joint work that seeks to promote the message and the social action of the Church of Santiago.

The Vicariate Pastoral Social (VPS) was founded in 1993 as a continuation of the social work of the Vicariate of Solidarity, an institution that ecumenical and pluralistic vocation, had a distinguished career in the defense and promotion of human rights at the serious violations of human dignity have taken place since the breakdown of democracy in Chile until he won the return to democracy in our country. At birth the VPS, is integrated into its ranks Caritas Santiago and assuming the task of spreading the social doctrine of the Church hitherto served the Institute of Social Broadcasting (Indis). The mission of this new Vicarage is defined as "to encourage and coordinate the social ministry of the Church of Santiago", which expresses the intention to have a body to give a sense of unity and multiple organic expressions of social pastoral work in our archdiocesan.

The Vicariate of Workers, meanwhile, was born in 2000 as a continuation of the work of the Vicariate Pastoral Obrera, flagship institution in the rights of workers and had a key role in the reorganization of union movement, understood as the actor called to give prominence to their own members in demanding higher levels of justice in the workplace. The mission of the Vicarage is set to "evangelize the world of work, according to the dignity and rights of working men and women." Both

originating vicariates were created in the decade of the '70s by the then Archbishop of Santiago, Cardinal Raul Silva Henriquez, of blessed memory for the Christian people. The return to democracy, the Church of Santiago saw the need to show signs of continuity and change in their role before the Chilean society, so it has basically maintained the structure and objectives of both vicariates, raised new challenges that nascent democracy had both the promotion of human rights, and to the evangelization of society, changes that they wanted to symbolize the new names that these institutions acquired.

after more than a decade of these adjustments, the Santiago Church wished to rethink again in social action and so begins the integration process, which seeks to bring coherence to the social message and greater force in the promotion campaign in one of the most ambitious projects in recent history pastoral of the Church of Santiago.

This has been defined to keep the name, mission and character of both the Vicariate Pastoral Social, and the Vicariate of Workers, maintaining their own areas of action, but also have integrated teams in areas common to develop synergistic processes that increase the effectiveness of pastoral action that has been entrusted. At the same time, the tasks of each institution, are added new challenges such as coordination in the Archdiocese of prison ministry, the ministry of health and care homes and centers for older adults as children at risk and social challenges that will be assumed in a gradual and planned.

The current mission of the institution is: We are the Social Pastoral vicariates and employees of the Archdiocese of Santiago, which together with individuals and groups of greatest poverty and the world of work promote the Gospel values \u200b\u200bassociated with a culture of solidarity and respect for human rights. Driving to encounter Christ living in all members of the Church and society, committing permanently with the poor and homeless, working on building a fairer society, solidarity, brotherhood and mercy. 7 .-
